Was playing yesterday, as not totally happy with the bass on the surround sound since I got my new TV.

Well the reason no apparent base was a school boy error of not actually reconecting to amp boxedin

But whilst i was around the back I was looking at the controls / knobs n swithes..... which I haven't really taken any interest in since getting it 10 years ago when I just set the volume.... so an aexplanation would be nice on the others, and a guide to set-up help full.

Knob 1 - volume (self explanitory I hope)
Knob 2 - frequency crossover
Switch 1 - Phase poition 0 or 180 deg.

Processor is currently set to send bass signal to both sub (Dali SWA12) and front r&l speakers (Monitor Audio Silver 5i's).

any help, guidance would be gratefully recieved. biggrin

Knob 2 controls an electrical filter which determines the upper frequency which the Dali Sub works. The reason a control is needed is to integrate the sub with the other speakers in your system. For example, if your main speakers were large floorstanding speakers you would probably only require the sub to work up to ~ 40Hz. If you were using tiny discreet satellite speakers then the sub would need to reproduce a larger bandwidth of frequencies( maybe up to 100~120Hz ) before handing over, or 'crossing over', to the L/C/R speakers. A bookshelf speaker like the 5i is likely to require a crossover frequency in the 50~60hz region but you are the best judge of this. This is very subjective ; what sounds best to you is the correct crossover frequncy tbh.

Switch 1 reverses the direction the speaker drive unit moves in the Dali. It is common for a speaker driver to move outwards when fed with the positve phase of an AC music signal however some amplifier are phase reversing causing the speaker to move in instead. Switch 1 means your Dali sub can cope with either scenario and integrate with the other equipment being used in the system as well as different subwoofer locations, room eigentones and stuff nuts
