Morning all, thought I would pick your collective brains about how to do as basic a set up to browse the net on my TV

I have a bog standard LG LH4000 32" TV and often I connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI and then use a wireless mouse/keyboard to navigate my way around, the laptop connects wirelessly to the router in the usual way so I can watch youtube and read PH without having the laptop on my lap, although connecting it this way I only get sound coming through the laptop.

But I thought I would get some idea as to what options I have that are more "fixed"

so far, I've thought of getting a mini/micro PC with HDMI out to connect to the TV, then Cat5 the PC to the router, and have my wireless mouse/keyboard as normal. not sure about the sound though…

would that work? or would I be missing anything? or (as per usual) have I gone completely the wrong way about it? some time in the future I'd like to add things like bluray and maybe even a 5.1 but I want to make sure I buy things sensibly as and when I can, without replacing anything, if that makes sense…

your opinions would be much appreciated

Thanks!

.Mark

I do similar to you, so laptop connects to TV via video out (older laptop so no HDMI), then sound from the sound port in to the back of the home theatre via a jack lead. Wireless keyboard with built in mouse allows me to control it all.

It's a spare laptop so that's kind of permanently wired up.

Doesn't the HDMI carry sound too? So it could come out of the TV?

i dont get sound coming through the HDMI but im not sure if thats the norm or if i've done something. rather than using a laptop i would want a micro pc (in gloss back so it matches the rest of the equipment ( OCD much? hehe ) )

could i use a playstation in anyway? i kow they have Blueray players and HDMIs too...?

Have a look in your sound settings - I do the same and had to switch the outputs on windows from onboard to HDMI.

If all you want to do is browse t'internet and watch youtube, why not just get a wireless keyboard for the PS3?

i will certainly have a look into that, im not really a massive gamer (last one being a NES) but if a PS3 ticks all the boxes its worth concidering,

As has been said a PS3 would meet your needs - other option is a micro pc like an Acer Revo - about £200
