Audiophiles, I know that £60 in the world of sound & vision is chicken feed and that there are £xxx offerings available (I have seen some of the Beyer offerings) but I am looking for a set of cans which I can sit and listen to House/Rock music to with decent sound quality.

Please bear in mind that I'm currently used to a set of these: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hps-extra-bass-and-d... so most I would imagine would be an upgrade (if not all!)

Please dont recommend £100 sets as I dont want to be spending that much - I'm in the process of looking to upgrade hi-fi components.

Something like these would give you a noticable increase in quality, although I am sure you could buy them cheaper elsewhere than my link!

Assume you'll be using a source connected to an amplifier, rather than a portable music player? So you'll have plenty of power to drive them with and you won't be moving around much, so portability won't be a concern? If so, you definitely want a pair which surround the entire ear, rather than sitting on top of it. Much better sound isolation and bass response.

I've got a set of these Koss PRO/4AAT which have been ace. Light and comfortable with great sound. Lifetime warranty as well. One of the drivers in my pair packed up after five or six years of heavy use - sent them back to Koss and they shipped me a brand new replacement pair. Top service.

Find whichever Grado phones you can afford and you will have the best in the price range. If you have to spend £15 more than your budget then do so. I had the SR80's then the SR125's they are head and shoulders abover everyone else.

Another vote for Grado.Have had the SR80's for a few years now and still love the clarity from a good source. This was despite me opening the box they came in and thinking that nothing so light could be so good!

I also wouldn't rule out something like the smaller Shure in-ear types if you want something portable, too.Get those things sat just right in your ear and they sound amazing.I have the Shure E2C which cost over a ton a while back, they may be cheaper now.

The in-ear phones give me grief after a while so I'd like something comfortable to wear in house.

Those Grado's sound like the business, not the prettiest but I'll see if there any deals on the SR60s. Stupid question but anyone wearing them without hair? That plastic band doesnt look to offer the greatest amount of protection for us baldies biggrin

Not a lot of hair here these days lol.Thing is, they are so light and flexible that you could probably have a head full of lesions and it wouldn't really matter.

A lot will depend on whether you prefer the phones to completely cover your ears. The Grados sound lovely and don't require high volumes to satisfy (again if the source is reasonable), but others may hear them during those midnight listening sessions when even dropping a spoon in the sink sounds like a train crash.

You can, for example, turn the earpieces round the other way (so the hard plastic is facing your ears and the speakers face outwards) and still listen to them at a lower quality.Just something to think about.

I've got the SR80s & a shaved head... You'll be fine, can wear them for hours & stay comfy.

I know we've already blown your budget.. but consider getting a little headphone amp at a later date.
This FiiO E5 really made mine sing!
