Well looks like my trusty Panasonic TH42PX60B is knackered. Power supply board has gone pop apparently and been advised by the little man who came around to take a look just to go and buy a new telly as repair costs will be prohibitive (£'00s).

So, my question is what do people recommend as a worthy replacement these days..?? Similar size is required and we like HD sports, the odd DVD / blueray and use for the kids PS3.

The most common failure of the mentioned Power Supply Board TNPA3911 is the short of Power Transistor Q406.
In most cases replacing the Power Transistor Q406 and the open fuses or burnt resistor will fix your board. You can order repair kit for little money or.....

Send it to someone else to repair,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANASONIC-PLASMA-POWER-S...

Alternatively go big and get a 50+ inch TV.

The 60 was the last of the reliable ones, yes its gone faulty but its an easy fix, should be back on the road for £100 and its well worth spending on that TV.

Surely one of the most unexpectedly helpful replies ever.

Well done.

Whilst on the subject, or 50in samsung took a knock to the glass and refuses to switch on. IIRC we paid 1500 for it. We are probably going to claim on household, and will probably get to keep the old one(?) - what's the likely fault and solution or cost to repair?

OK,

May be this board BN44-00222A

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Power-PCB-Board-Unit-FR-...

But before you order that and have it shipped, if you are handy with a screw driver (or like dogs) watch this video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaqDWr_f5LQ

You will see it is possible a fuse has gone. 12ah250v (12amp 250v high breaking capacity).

All a guess with out knowing the model number.

Just thought I'd update this.

I finally got round to sending the board off to Andys electronic stuff as linked above. Sent it off on Wed, was repaired and back in my sweaty mitts on Sat morning. An hour later and the repaired board was in and the TV is now fixed... woohoo

Thanks for everyones help / advice getting it sorted beer

can anyone hazard a guess as to why a knock to the glass would leave a plasma telly unable to switch on, as above? Is new glass cheap for a 50 inch, or is the telly probably done for/probably likely to cost the earth to fix? No claimed or replaced yet or even looked into it as it's upstairs and not used much.

I know the problem is not well defined and the question vague, just curious as to a "possible or probable" scenario.

Good to hear it's sorted. Glad I could help and just so everyone knows I'm not affiliated with any sites I posted I just used to be in the business.
