Hi everyone.

Can a faulty scart cable mean the loss of one particular colour element from the TV picture (i.e. red)?

I'm trying to work out what's wrong with my Mum's portable TV when being watched through the "digi-box". I've tried a different digi-box and the result's the same. I also have reason to believe that the TV works fine on analogue without the digi-box though I'm not absolutely 100% sure on that.

Many thanks.

Loss of red was the first sign of impending death of the tube on my old CRT TV

Easy way to find out: Try a different Scart cable. A cheapie from Maplins should do the trick without breaking the bank.

Yes it can, if the device you are watching has an RGB outupt then you can loose one of the colours, have a look at the pins on both ends of the SCART one is proberbly pushed in. For a quick fix you can switch your digibox to composite if it has that facility or if not find pin 16 and cut it that will force composite. Or just try another cable wink

Thanks everyone. I'll try a cable from my TV and take it over to see what happens.

If not the lead probably a dry joint on the scart connector or the tube neck PCB.

This was sorted with a different scart cable.
