I have a Marantz CD5001 that has started to play up . The CD tray does not stay open , you have to be really quick changing CD's - It's like Arkwrights till ! Also , it starts to play the cd no problem but if you skip to the next track , sometimes it plays as normal and sometime it just stops .

Is it worth repairing , as it is not an expensive cd player anyway , or just get a new one .

Would the Marantz CD6003 be a noticeable improvement on the CD5001 ? It is used with a Marantz PM4001 Amp and Monitor Audio BR2's .
Thanks

It'll most likely just be the loading belt, that drives the tray.

After a few years, the belt slips and can't provide enough drive to fully open the tray.

Left long enough, they get to the point where they won't fully close either.

Would it be something I could fix myself ?

Without kowing the level of your technical ability, I wouldn't like to hazard a guess!

Basically, you need to remove the top cover, then remove the front of the CD tray (this usually slides in an upward direction) and then remove the mechanism (after unplugging all the various cables).

Then you manually slide the tray out (there is a plastic pulley which you can rotate to achieve this).

It is this pulley that the belt is attached too.

It can be a bit of a complex procedure if you're not familiar with working on kit like this.

The crucial thing is to get the timing correct when refitting the tray - get that wrong and it won't close properly.

ETA:

Exploded view of mechanism. The loading belt is item 28.
