Afternoon,

I have recently installed a new Optoma HD67 and currently have it hooked up to a ps3.

Everything has been fine, except how its been displaying Blu-rays. They look great however its cutting off a fair bit of the picture. This is obvious when you are on the menu, its not possible to see half of the options.

I have been through all of the different settings on the PJ, changing aspect etc and nothing seems to change it. I then started looking through the PS3, however there is very little I can see which relates.

The PS3 was set up as 1080p, I changed this down to 720p as i know this is the max the PJ can display but still nothing changes.

Now having flicked through the menu's Im having problems with the PS3 displaying games, its doing the same thing and cutting off picture, this was perfect before.

This is my first PJ, so its all new to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Kindest Regards.

Might be worth looking in the menus to see if there is any mention of 'overscan'. If so you should set it to zero so that you get 1:1 pixel mapping and hopefully no cut off image. Also check the 'aspect ratio' control (if it has one) as there may be options such as 4:3, 16:9, S16:9, wide, etc. Most likely setting would be 16:9.

I don't have a PS3 so can't comment on if there are any settings in it that might effect the size of the image. However, some displays have different settings applied depending on the input signal: When you're in the menu for a disc the PS3 might be outputing 1080/60i (or 60p) but once the BluRay starts it might change to 1080/24p. So you need to check the settings with the film on, so to speak.

EDIT: I've been assuming that you're using HDMI connection (don't think there's any other option anyway for a PS3?).

Right oldskool I have had a quick look. When the blu ray starts its on 1080p /60, so when the disc is loading the aspect is correct even the ps3 pop up screen menu is the right size.

Then after this initial loading the screen then changes and it flashes up 1080p/24hz in the corner. The content then gets bigger and the same pop up menu is all cropped with a load of it of the screen.

Very frustrating.

It's going to be a question of checking the various menus (and sub menus) in 1080/60p mode and then comparing the settings in 1080/24p then. I have a JVC projector, so my menus are probably completely different to yours. I saw you posted over on AVForums, so maybe someone with the same projector might be able to help there.

Have you had a look through the PS3 settings? I thought the 24 was to do with frame rate and do shouldn't effect picture scaling. Do the blurays have black bands top and bottom? Is the PJ on a smart aspect mode perhaps?

No bands on blurays, like I said previously its missing a load of the picture on every side.

Been through all settings on ps3, driving me crazy now, especially considering its cocking the games up aswell.

Can you borrow another bluray player to see if it does it with that as well?
