iPod/Laptop - Active Speakers vs Amp+Speakers setup.

I'm looking for a speaker system for listening to music mostly from laptop / occasionally from iPod. Budget flexible between £100-£250. Music is varied, leaning mostly to indie I guess.

I've been looking at both Active Speakers (eg. Accoustic Energy Aego M seem to get good reviews), but also amp+speaker combos (eg system 1 here : http://www.richersounds.com/information/hifisystem...

Any recommendations - pros/cons etc ? (apart from the obvious one of amp potentially accomodating other inputs)

eBay has second hand amps and speakers , you could add an airport express and stream from your iPod or iTunes on the laptop
