Rather than crash the other Sonos thread, the specific query I have is related to using our existing Ipod dock with (potential) new Sonos system. From a quick Google search it seems I'm not the only one trying to do this...

Looking at the specs it seems to me that the ZP90 should work...??

I know some will say that I may as well buy another zone player, but at £200ish for a "90" doing this represents a £100 saving.

Yeah ZP90 should work fine, if the Bose has an amp built in..

Hi
I have a zp80 (same as 90 but older and bigger) plugged into a Bose sounddock and it works well and has a great sound.
I would say if you don't already have a sounddock it is an expensive way round things, I also have 4 sonos s5's (renamed play5) and these are just as good as the zp80 & sounddock but alot cheaper and obviously in one package.
I picked mine up for £500 for 2.
I do think the sounddock option has slightly more bass but I haven't played aroundy with the eq settings on the s5's at all so could probably be improved, oh and 2 together can be used for stereo sound.

Hmmm...so a Play 3 can be had for £229, and a ZP90 for £219.......is the Bose going to give MUCH better sound than a Play 3, more equivalent to a Play 5??
Can't find Play 5's for less than £300ish...
Decisions, decisions...!!

To be honest I haven't heard a play 3 but I would say it won't sound as good as the sounddock/zp90 or the play5(s5) due to the smaller size and less speakers(compared to play5),IMO.
I picked my S5's(play5) up for £250 each from an authorised sonos dealer, he was advertising them on ebay for £300 each but I had a deal with him for cash.
There are some deals to be had on stuff like this in the current climate.
I would try and get a play5 for the little extra as if you want to use it in the garden or different rooms it is 1 plug and bobs your uncle whereas with the soundock/zp90 it's not quite as simple and you can still use your sounddock elswhere.

Thanks for that. If I could get a Play:5 for £250 I'd be there!

As it is, a ZP90 connected to the Bose seems the best bet as that one will pretty much stay in one place.

I've heard a play 3, it's really pretty good but does lack the bass and sense of scale the play 5 has. In saying that, depending what you wanted to use it for its very good.

Quite a lot of zp80s come up on eBay as people upgrade systems etc, worth a look.

I should add - I was very impressed with the play 3 for the size of it. Have a listen, it may be all you really need. certainly i felt it close to the Bose but I've not listened to a Bose for extended periods, plus the convenience of sonos means you will use it more too. Or, at least I find I do anyway.
