Hi, my girlfriend wants to have a dish installed so she can use a polish receiver (aready bought in Poland) to watch Polish TV. The proposed location is straight forward, outside our bedroom, and the TV/receiver position will be inside the bedroom.

What do i need to know, will the dish need to be moved around to pick up the Polish signal? Will it be ok in the same general sort of position that our neighbours have (assuming their's is set up for Sky)?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

AFAIK the majority of Polish broadcasts are either at 5 degrees East, or 28.2 east.
You'll also need a bigger dish.

Polish TV is transmitteed via the Hotbird satellite which is located at 13 degrees East. Sky is transmitted via the Astra satellite, which is at 28 degrees East.

I've got Polsat installed at home and put the dish (90cm) up myself. It's fairly straight forward to find the signal if you know the general direction of where to point the dish. A satellite signal meter is also useful to help locate a strong signal. I think that these can be picked up quite cheaply (£10-£15).

Hmm, thanks for the info, i actually live on the first floor of a block of flats (sandwiched between ground and second floor), so i don't think a bigger dish would be suitble. It is Polsat yes. I take it the Sky dishes are smaller than required?

Whereabouts in the coutry are you?

The reason that a bigger dish is required is becuase the Hotbird satellite transmits to central/eastern Europe & the Middle Ease region, hence the signal in the UK is not that strong and requires a larger dish to pick it up.

There is plenty of info on the web, whiich is where I did my research before doing my own DIY install.
