I've got a TV, BluRay player, AV Receiver and a Freeview recorder (so far) which means 4 remotes and everything currently on show so I can use the remotes.

I'm thinking of using some form of Wireless-IR converter so I can hide all the boxes away and came across this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-Beacon-Universal-R...

So are these any good or would anyone suggest something else.

Many thanks
Gary

I bought a Gear4 version of this (I think there is a link there on the Amazon page).

It wasn't particularly good to be honest. It was hard work teaching it new commands as it rarely picked up the button presses from other remotes. It then didn't always do what you wanted it to.

And then there is the practicality of something like this. My iphone goes into standby after a few seconds. So then you need to unlock it, find the app if it has closed (which it often had), then it would need to reconnect, then go to the page where the controls were on in the app, all just to press the Pause button. It was all just much easier to find and use the standard remote.

The macros were handy but just didn't work very well. So my amp needed to be switched on and set to "TV", but the Gear4 software didn't understand the "TV" button, so it had to use the Function cycle (which it couldn't really do as that was dependent on which function it was on previously). Also for some reason, it would happily switch my Sky HD box on and off when pressing the single button for this, but just would not do it within a macro for some reason.

I gave up after about a week and sent it back. Nice idea but doesn't quite work!

I would definitely recommend a proper universal remote, one with actual physical buttons (or at least a touch-screen that stayed on permanently). We have one that came with our Freesat PVR box that works fantastically. The Logic ones seem very good and I will get around to getting one at some point.
