Guys,

Currently looking to set-up a new TV and AV system in a small living room.

The kit I currently have is Naim Nait5i and a pair of Ruark Epilogue II's which sound amazing together.

AV kit wise I have a 47" LG LED TV, PS3 and BT Vision. Rather than get a new surround sound system, I am hoping to get an AV reciever and use that almost as a pre-amp / processor and the Nait5i to drive the Ruarks (when I put the Nait in 'AV' mode etc).

Anyone done this? Or have any experience? I don't really want to spend more that £250 on an amp (kind of puts me out of the Denon ranges)

Mark.

Exactly what i do with my naimuniti. Just make sure whatever AV amp you buy has pre-outs. Connect FL and FR pre-outs from the AV amp to a spare set of inputs on the naim and jobs a goodun. On the uniti I can set an input to be fixed gain so the AV amp controls the overall volume - not sure if the 5i can do the same?

I did exactly this a while back but with a Nait 3 powering the fronts and a Yamaha processor powering rears. I don't have a centre or sub but found it fine with just 4 speakers as the processor can put the dialogue through the fronts anyway.

I think this is the way forward for me then, looking at the Yamaha RXV371 as a basic AV that can do the job.

HDMI the BT Vision, PS3 and Apple TV in, pre-out the left and right audio to the Naim (potentially add a centre speaker) etc.

Is there certain settings I need to have on the AV amp to make it work?

I think you're st out of luck with the 371 - from the photos and tech spec it doesn't have pre-outs. The lowest in the Yamaha range that does is the 771. Get on Yamaha's website and have a look at the photos of the rear of the units - you'll see the bank of pre-outs on the 771.
