I would suggest that running an iPod and Sky box through 50K worth of speakers is completely pointless.
You need not only amps good enough to make the most of great speakers but a good source too. Any system is only as good as its weakest link.
Is there any way you could look at a hard disc streamer connected to a DAC?
For amps I'd look at Bryston, Mcintosh or Classé but you're looking at 10s of Ks for all these interconnects together.
How much can you spend?

There's nothing wrong with running an iPod through a massively expensive system. It won't be as good as putting a CD or a lossles file through it, but the iPod will sound about as good as it's ever going to.
If you're willing to pay for it, then play what the hell you like through it.
Bryston amps work very well with most things, but if I was spending that sort of money (or even close) then I'd be looking at PMC personally. Bryston and PMC are generally a match made in heaven.

.
Quite..
ETA I agree you can do it but from what the OP says above he seems to be suggesting that this will be the principle source for stereo music which I'm sure you'd agree would be a shame with such a great system.

unless you're planning on opening your house to all around and going 'cor look at my system' a Hi Fi system is a personal thing....
I would advise listening
and listening again....!
In my humble opinion, what makes a good music system is not always what makes a good surround one...
What do you like to listen to?
If it's the beatles then they mixed for stereo and not lots and lots of speakers...
If you like the movies, then you'll want lots of bass, but then are you detached...
And so it goes on...
Take your ipod with your music and go and listen to a few systems - ESPECIALLY if you're spending hard earned cash!

So much wrong with this thread!
If the £3-5K is the electronics, then fair enough, but if it includes the speakers, I'm highly dubious of them being £50K Reference Series ones!
Get yourself along to a proper dealer, and they'll give you a grounding in acoustics, and what's realistically achieveable for the budget within the constraints of your room.
If that sounds like double Dutch, then it only reinforces the need to sit down and talk with a good dealer, as well as spending time reading up on acoustics/room nodes/sound reinforcement from all the info available online.
