What to I need??

Morning all...
I have recently acquired a projector (HD, 3D, short-throw) for a very good price, with the intention of hooking it up to a PS3, amp and speakers in the spare room to create a small 'man corner'.
I'm no tech wizz so I was hoping for a bit of advice as to how I can create a decent enough set-up for not too much outlay.
The original plan was for a PS3 hooked up to an Edifier 2.1 surround system but I've since been told that the HDMI and optical only outputs of the PS3 won't work with the Edifier system, so I'm now looking for alternative solutions.
I'm not looking for earth-shattering performance - I have attached neighbours and am no audiophile; so I didn't know if a soundbar and sub would be a decent option?
