I don't want (to pay the premium of) a large 3D TV

I want to furnish my new house with a big telly (~50" +) but I have no interest in 3D whatsoever. Problem is they don't seem to be available without it. Am I looking in the wrong places?

A colleague at work got a Sony bravia 52" jobbie 18 months ago for ~£1100 and with my consumer-electronics-price-drop-logic I expected to be able to get something similar for a lot less. Or something a bit better / bigger for similar money.

Do I really need to pay a premium for something I don't want?
