Right I have a Panasonic VT 30 and a Onkyo HDX 22 HDX

Currently HDMI out ( onkyo) is connected into HDMI 1( Panasonic) but cannot get any sound whatsoever when I use freesat

I have a PS3 also connected to the Onkyo which works fine.

Also I have ARC on the TV - should I use that?

The Panasonic manuals are rubbish!

ARC is 'audio return channel' so if your amp supports this then it needs to be enabled on the set, your cable must also support this.
Failing that you would need to use the optical out on the tv (if it has one) and use this to send the sound to the amp.

You should use the ARC HDMI on your TV and then enable the functionality on your reciever.

Is the freesat built into the tv or is it a separate unit ?

The freesat is built in the Tv . When I used the arc HDMI function I only seemed to get stereo

I'd just use an optical cable, works fine in my [very similar] setup. smile

If it's anything like my G20, I doubt you will be able to get 5.1 from the in-built freesat/freeview decoders via the optical link (not tried the HDMI 2 route - but I can't see that working either).

Mine works on my G20. I get 5.1 from the freesat, not tried the freeview but I dont see why not. The program of course has to be broadcast with 5.1 though!

Is that via the HDMI or optical link ?

Could it be that the TV is pumping out Dolby Digital plus (AC-3), which the amp doesn't support?

You do get 5.1 via the optical but ive never tried using the ARC, that main problem that some people may confuse your issue with is that if you send 5.1 into the set via HDMI it wont come back out of the optical as 5.1, built in freesat should work fine. (also remember the program your watching has to be broadcast in 5.1 also, not everything is)
Does your Onkyo support Arc?

The Onkyo does support ARC but sound only seems to be 2 channel.

So to clarify would is be correct?

TV >Onkyo = HDMI

TV > Onkyo = Optical cable

PS3 > Onkyo = HDMI

PC > Onkyo = HDMI

So the above should allow 5.1 to all systems as long as the program is broadcast in 5.1?

Does anyone on here have experience with the Onkyo HDX 22?
