Sorry if this has been done before but the search was not working.

I'm looking to spend up to £1000 on a 50 inch tv. We only watch normal sky and occasional dvds. I have seen HD and like it so may want to watch DVD in HD. not sure about what i would need for 3D but the kids may like that.

What should I buy and where from?

Any help much appreciated.

Where from?

- Amazon are very cheap at the moment
- Richer Sounds are also fairly competitive but have VG customer service and above-average (yet cheaper-than-average) extended warranties

What?
- At 50" it's probably got to be a Panasonic Plasma. Plasma is still the Daddy at that size, and Panasonic seem to get all the best reviews too. Samsung may be worth a look. Panasonic are offering 'free' 5-year warranties on most TVs if bought in a participating store after watching a demo. None of the cheapest vendors are on the list near us though...

Final thought - Richer Sounds have got a £200 discount TODAY on the P50ST30, which is the 'no frills' level 3D TV (there's one model below (UT), very basic, and two above (GT and VT), both VERY good by all accounts). That said, we saw an ST42 (smaller screen, identical tech) in Currys yesterday and were unimpressed. But that could easily have been the cabling or set-up - the GT42 we saw in Comet was stunning.
