Dubbing is now out !
Discussion
Afternoon all. I wonder if anybody can help me here?
After years of trusty service the old TV was about to die so the other day i had to go out and purchase a new one. Bigger, better picture etc etc.
Well, here's where i could do with some advice. When playing a DVD and listening through the TV speakers everything it fine but, when i turn on the amp and switch it to the same DVD setting that i've been using for years, i get the sound out of the loud speakers before i get the visual response.
All i've done is change the TV. I'm still using the same cables etc but can't fathom out why this is happening.
Is it a simple case of now running a `sound out` from the TV to the amp? If so i'd be a little disappointed i think as the amp and the DVD player talk to each other to determine the correct setting etc for the sound depending on how the DVD has been recorded - DTS / Pro Logic etc.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Extra video processing in the TV delays the picture so the sound gets out of sync. Hopefully your amp has a control to add delay to the sound (not the individual channels delay, but a global one). Try about 80mS and move longer or shorter to see if this fixes it. Your old TV must have had less delay in the processing, hence the difference.

Ah fantastic ! I know it has defiantly got a delay function on there that does the channels so it would (i presume) have one for a global control. I'll have to try and figure it all out again as it's been YEARS since i set it up in that manner. (Amp BTW is a Denon AVC A11SR)
Thanks chap !

Just reviving this thread and i have another question if you don't mind.
I couldn't get the delay on the amp long enough to match up with the picture so ended up using a optical cable which worked a treat BUT the amp isn't recognising the signal to the rear speakers. Before the new purchase i was getting true 5.1 sound but now am only getting the front 3 channels. Any ideas?
Cheers.

hell John, you're like my mother in law when she buys a new bit of kit
AV amps can have hugely complicated menu system, but I bet, hidden somewhere, there will be a setting to tell the amp to pass the optical signal through the DD/DTS decoder. You'll have to have a look at the manual really. On mine you can press buttons for 2/ch, dolby pro logic etc etc etc or just "auto" - that then gives you proper sound (sony amp though).
ETA
Please DON'T evade the swear filter it's there for a reason.

^I plugged the amp back into the TV to access the menu and trust me, there wasn't anything there like that. I have the same buttons on my remote too for sound functions. As i said, to get the dubbing within 5min of the picture i had to run the sound from the TV as it processes the image soooooooooooooo much for the HD part.
The ironic thing is, i don't actually watch a lot of TV and i play the X-Station even less. All i want it to do is work as good as it did before !

I'll give it another look at this weekend if i get the chance. Thanks for the pointers though !
