After the stress of searching around for a new TV, i have decided to go for the Panasonic TX-P50ST30B. It's for sale in Richer Sounds and John Lewis for £699 with pairs of free 3D glasses. I can't justify paying an extra £400 for the GT30, when it would appear to have the same panel and filter, and the only difference seems to be USB recording and Freesat.

I saw the ST30 in John Lewis and the picture in SD and HD looked better (more natural) than LED's for a similar price (i guess that's down to personal preference though). Although the set has 3D, it isn't a priority as it won't be used very often, even though the reviews say the 3D on this is very good.

Anyone got any experience of this TV, good or bad?

Just been and bought it! Too impatient to wait for one to be delivered. Although it's still in the box, i'm impressed with the active glasses. Lightweight (26g), quite comfortable and charge via usb, not the horrible, heavy, chunky things i have seen on display with some TVs.

Just bought said TV from JL last week when they dropped the price to £699 to match Comet, but no glasses! Should have waited a week, oh well...

First impressions are very good with SD Sky and DVD. I have high expections for Blue Ray but yet to try it. Built in i-Player in HD looks very nice and far better than expected. Sound is average at best.

They will likely still be able to help. You do have the option of taking it back then buying 30 seconds later so I would call them and ask.

I have also ordered one of these from John Lewis today and have high expectations. I did talk to Richer Sounds and they offered to match the JL offer of tv, glasses and 5 years warranty but they will hit you with a £25 delivery charge because it is an "in-store" offer only.

JL delivery is free and maybe the Richer Sounds charge can be negotiated but they didn't have it in stock at my local branch anyway.

I have the North American version, the 55ST30 and I think it's amazing, easily one of the best screens I have ever seen, definitely the best I've ever owned.

I've not had chance to fully go through everything yet, but SD and HD content i have seen looks awesome.

I'm just waiting for my powerline adaptors to arrive and then i can check out the online features.

With regards to the sound, i've got a 5.1 Onkyo surround system which i'll be connecting to it once it's ready to go up on the wall.

Ordered a wall bracket too, great reviews and only £14.99 + postage from Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-PLB103M-K-Universa...

JL will still price match up to four weeks after the sale - so go in there with your reciept and proof of price in Comet and hold out your hands smile

Or Richer Sounds. That's where i got mine from and it was £699 with 2 pairs of glasses, or £599 without - http://www.richersounds.com/product/plasma-tv/pana...

I intend mounting mine on the wall when it arrives and it's difficult to see from the online pdf file manual how much of a recess there is for the connection panel on the rear. I have to order a new 3m HDMI 1.4 cable and I am wondering if there is plenty of room to connect a straight plug or if it is worth getting one with a right angle plug.
Can anyone advise please ?

Update: I have been handed the answer separately (thanks K!)through a very good picture of the rear of the tv at this link - http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/tvs/1284724/panason...
Hope this helps anyone else who may have similar questions, also good to see how they handle the power cable to avoid that protruding.

I'm not that interested in iPlayer so I can't answer your question, I think iPlayer might be coming to Canada soon anyway.

If you really want UK TV, then you can register with someone like EXPat Shield and get a UK proxy, which would enable you to access UK IP-restricted services.

The Panny has landed, delivered yesterday by those awfully nice John Lewis people. Spent the rest of the day ripping out the old Sony Bravia/Yamaha AV receiver and tidying up the cabling. I now have it coupled to a Pioneer VSX 521 (with Sky+ 1Tb HD and Kef eggs) and so far I am very impressed. The picture quality is outstanding and I am a lot more impressed with 3D than I expected to be, I could stare at the fascinating Sky 3D test card for hours! I am also pleasantly surprised at the quality of Freeview HD picture on BBC One HD, it looks as good if not better than when using Sky.
The compatibility between the ST30 and Pioneer allows me to do all the basics with the just the Sky remote, so powering on/off the TV does the same to the Pioneer plus volume and mute. One major problem was the default power on preference of the ST30 which we could not change from being the TV to HDMI2. We eventually resolved it by putting it into "hotel" mode (hold down +/- button on side of tv and press AV on the remote three times) where you can select any default you like. In case anyone wonders why HDMI2, it is because that is the one that provides ARC.
So far I am a very happy customer.
