My lounge of off centre due to the doorway, so should I put the TV off centre opposite the sofa? Or is it always best to centre the TV to the width of the wall?

The other thing is what height should it go at? It is a 40 inch and the distance to the sofa is 2m. Is there an optimum height?

Can't advise on position but I always think height should be eye level from your normal viewing position. Nobody likes the front row at the cinema as you have to tilt your head back, not comfortable at all.
I think that if you google what hi-fi they have a recommended distance chart to get best view.

+1 on eye level when sitting. The amount of peoples houses that i've gone to and they have fixed their screen at head hight is unbelievable

Bottom of the screen, middle of the screen, or top of the screen in line with eye-level though?

So sit on the sofa and the middle of the TV should be at your eye level?

What about middle of the wall or off centre?

Mine is off centre, not massively but enough so it's central to the sofa. It actually looked weird in a central position.

It depends entirely on the individual room.

I'd agree with having the screen at eye level rather than too high, but it would look a bit weird to wall mounting it at that height, so would be better to put it on a stand.

I have actually got mine mounted higher than I'd like on the wall, but I didn't have enough space to stand mount it in an eye level position. It is surprising how quickly you get used to it and I actually find it very comfortable, although you need the right type of sofa if you are going to do this!

depends on how far away from it you sit

mine is on the wall, eye level when standing is about at the top of the screen, but we sit about 3 - 4m away from it, so it's only a couple of degrees off horizontal

(worst 'I've got a big living room' post ever) wink

As I have already said I sit 2m from mine, who's got the big one? ;-)
