As title, looking for Panasonic Viera 42" Full HD TV.

Where is the best and cheapest place to look; budget is a bit tight.

Also, is it better to go for LCD/LED or Plasma?

Thank you in advance folks.

I very seriously doubt it.

I got a L42E30B (I think) from Dixons online about 2 months ago for £445. They promptly went up to £499 in the January sale.
It's a 42-inch LED (think it's edgelit) 1080P screen. Very happy with it so far.

Thanks guys

I would prefer a thin one as it will be going on the wall; I guess LED will also be a little more cost effective with power usage? (every little helps smile)

I can recommend the 42 ins Panasonic 1080p Plasma that I got just before Christmas. Took me a long time to finally get a flat screen but after ages of looking at various models, reading reviews and coming on here I went for the G30. I believe it's their top of the range non 3D one.

I have been very impressed with the picture and it doesn't buzz like earlier Plasmas and it's only 5 cms thick.

The Smart TV aspect of it works well and iPlayer HD looks great even on my lowly 5.5mbs broadband.

I paid £599 for mine but you can get in on Amazon for £40 less.

Aside from the usual Plasma/ LCD/ LED argument, the point of buying Panasonic's to me is that they have the best Plasma tech on the market - if you're not in the market a plasma, you might as well look at other brands too....

As for 1080p, you're not going to see any difference on a 42 unless you're sat very close to it - bit of non-discussion though seeing as most if not all are 1080 now!

Thanks all - appreciate your input.

I've decided on the exact model, its going to be the 42" G30 model.

Cheapest price I've found is £549 inc 5 year warranty; anyone come across a price better than that?

Good price. As I said before, I paid £599 but then stumped up another 60 for the warranty.

Whats the difference between E, G and S models??

For instance, the G30 is on for £540 whereas the S30 is £100 cheaper.

Also seen a ST30 for £520 which is 3D ready!

E models I can't remember
S models are basically G models but without a few of the frills, most notably THX mode.
G models are S models with more frills, most notably THX mode.

ST / GT is are the 3D versions of S / G respectively.

I can vouch for GTs being fantastic, a mate recently bought an ST30 and is thrilled with it.

S will have fewer HDMI ports too. Think it's 3 for the S and 4 for the G.

I'm not sure about this but I think that the S isn't a "Smart Viera" therefore does not connect to the internet for iPlayer, YouTube, games and other services.

I could be wrong.

I am wrong but here is a video that explains all:
