Apologies but another what tv biggrin

Budget is £1500, and for that I would like a 50" 3d jobby, preferably with a surround sound speaker system.

I'm bamboozled with plasma, lcd bla bla......

Any pointers gratefully recieved. biggrin

I saw some pretty good looking 3D Plasma at Richer Sounds at the weekend, and well withing your budget too.

There's truly hundreds of permutations for a £1500 TV / Speaker System / AV receiver.

If you're wondering what an AV receiver is, it's the bit of kit which allows multiple devices (e.g blu ray / [sky/virgin/freeview box] / games consoles) to all channel their video and audio through it to both a TV and a separate speaker system. Since you want a 5.1 sound system it's pretty much a requirement, and well worth spending the cash on.

One way you could spend £1500 is on

Panasonic VIERA TX-P50GT30B 50 (meets all your requirements) http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/9400622/art/panaso...

and then an AV receiver / 5.1 speaker combo package

just an example, the possibilities are endless!

Thanks monkey. True indeed, loads of the buggers.
I haven't a clue what's the best lcd, or plasma or led!
Will research a bit more.

When I was looking for mine, the general rule of thumb was if it's 50" or over, it ought to be plasma. I'm guessing that has not changed a great deal.

My research led me to believe Panasonic or Samsung were the best manufacturers. I didn't like the unsubtlety of LCD screens, so there was no contest a few years ago.

So I was all set to buy a Panasonic Plasma. But 2011 and side by side, the LED sets had a more 'exciting' picture. If it's going to be in a darkened room, Plasma might be the most realistic, whatever that is.

After 3 or 4 years of thinking about it, I bought a Samsung LED and think it's great.

Go to somewhere like John Lewis, and do some comparative viewing.

Just got a Panny VT30 - 50" for £1500, so you'd have to stretch a little to add the sound system, but it's a cracking set.

Richer Sounds
^ Good advice - go there with your pennies, and they'll give you good advice and well priced products. Explain you want the TV/Receiver/Speakers/interconnects/cables/stand(?) within your budget, and take it from there.
