Poor DAB reception. Advice please
Discussion
I bought a Denon DAB, on a whim a few years ago (impulse buy "I must have" ) and it sat in my hifi rack(2nd floor)like a white elephant as could not get reception at all using the supplied internal ariel...... yet my alarm clock (Pure) in my bedroom (3rd floor) no issue at all with its foot long piece of wire ariel..... we were/are in a designated poor recption area.....
It was only last year when the appartments had the ariels updated for digital tv, that they also installed proper outdoor DAB ariels (I'd say level with the loft space so equivalent to 4th floor) and that I could eventually listen to the Denon... and I must it admit it does sound fantastic and lively compared to the old FM
I did do a few experiments with the supplied indoor ariel and did find that the higher I went that I did get reception, albeit only one or two stations..... with cut in and out. I then bought an amplified indoor ariel which had much better results more stations etc, and less drop outs, but it was very hit and miss weither you got reception at all.
My conclusion rightly or wrongly, is that getting reception in poor areas is down to the quality and positioning of the ariel, as well as luck ..... (think of it like a mobil phone when you have no recption, yet you need to make call.... you walk about the place, waving the phone about looking for that reception bar to magically appear or is that just me
)
Edited to say: excuse my spelling of aerial .... mentioned to many times to correct
