This might be a daft question, or i've not been googling the right term. But can anybody show me of how a single sub phono cable should be attached to the terminals on the back of a phono socket? Trial and error won't work as i've no way of testing this in my house/building site.

thanks in advance.

Sorry your question makes no sense, what are you trying to do exactly?

One of the standard ways is to use a phono module and snap it into a euro module plate.

These come in several different flavours. Screw down terminals, f connector or solder tags.

You mean like to a faceplate? Normally you would solder the cable to the back of the connector, to the tab shown here.

There are two parts to the connector, the center and the outer, if you strip back the cable it should be the same (if its the correct cable) the center part of the cable solders to the center of the connector and the outer screen of the cable solders to the tab or the outer screen of the connector, the two must not touch not even a single strand.
