I'm hoping theres an easy answer-

I received a Top Up TV sub to ESPN as a gift

Its great, but lots of interesting things are on in the middle of the night.

So.... how do I record these without spending a fortune on a device?

I have googled, but lots of options, and no clear answer..

Any input appreciated

How are you recieving it? Have you plugged a CAM and card into your TV? Or do you have a seperate top up tv box?

If its the TV then you can connect a SCART from the TV (av1) into your recording device (av1) then select AV1 on your recording device and hit record. This will record whatever is displayed on the TV screen so if you change channel then so does the recording. If its a seperate top up tv box then its instruction book will show you how to hook it up to a recorder.

I'm using the integrated card reader in the TV, and a top up card, with no freeview box

so, how can I get from SCART to a digital device, such as a NAS or media server?

You cant, your going to be limited to an analogue recording VIA SCART using a DVDR or VHS.

I found lots of Scart to USB devices , which allow direct ripping to a PC or media server

Hopefully that'll do the trick

You do realise you will have to leave your TV on whilst you record? If I were you I'd buy a Freeview PVR, look for one with a Top-Up Tv card slot.
