I would guess there is a fault with it wink
What make and model TV is it, what Make and model of Sky box? How are they connected together?
When it shuts down does it just go dead or blue screen etc.... how do you get it back on?

Mine does something similar going between HD and SD. I think it is something to do with some form of protocol handshaking taking place between the Sky HD box and the TV. The TV fails to receive the signal for the new format and just shows a blank screen. The only fix I have found is to power cycle the Sky box. The sound which is via an A/V amp is still fine so it is only a picture issue. It hasn't annoyed me enough yet to do any proper diagnosis.

Update - 3 seconds of research via Google shows mine is an issue with HDMI connectivity, Panasonic TV's and the Samsung Sky box I have. The only fix is a replacement box.

Usual candidate for this used to be thomson boxes and early samsung flat screens.
Another channel that may fall over is news multiscreen on the red button, some tvs and sky boxes may skitz out

Try changing the default output on the skybox from 1080i to 720p it might work
