I've got one of those that bolts on the back of the TV and has two smallish speakers on the sides.
A Q Acoustics Q-TV2 2.1 Home Cinema System, which I don't think is currently made.
If anything it's TOO loud for us, but the overall sound quality is infinitely superior to the Panasonic TV speakers.
I found that my Panasonic TV doesn't let you control the headphone socket volume with the main volume control, which is a bit of a pain - You have to navigate to a menu for Headphone Volume - WHY?

I added a the matching Panasonic SoundBar to his existing wall mount screen, it came with a wireless subwoofer and works really well as an improvement over the standard speakers. (it was his choice and purchase)
If your looking for true 5.1 type performance, then I use Polk Audio and they are passive so you add them to an ordinary 5.1 Amp. These are amazing, but cost around £500 upwards plus the amp.
