What headphones do I need? Recommendations please

Hi,
I’m flying up to Scotland at the weekend, so I’d like to pop out and get some decent headphones at some point this week (if I get time!).
What I want them for…
Listening to music and videos on my iMac when my girlfriend is watching TV in the lounge. I don’t know if they need to be noise cancelling, or whether any on ear headphones would be ok to keep the noise from the TV out.
Listening to music on the plane. I fly very rarely, once a year, so this is a very low priority. It’s just I’d quite like to have them for the trip this weekend.
And that’s really about it. I definitely don’t want in ear, they hurt and I can’t get on with them! My brother had a pair of Denon headphones which were about £100 which he was really pleased with. His friend broke them and he replaced them with a Bose pair, which he wasn’t as impressed with. I’d like the spend about £100, so what’s best?
Do I need noise cancelling or not? Denon, Senheiser, Shure, all good brands?

It's a shame you can't use in-ear ones. Some of them are decent quality for the prices.
For full size ones, I don't think you'll really need specifically noise cancelling ones tbh, unless she listens to the tv at silly volume. Unless you're listening in peace make sure you buy a pair which are closed back; some of them are designed open-backed and can be heard pretty clearly by anyone nearby. I have some nice Alessandro headphones which are like this, they sound amazing but I hardly ever get to use them!
Within your budget i'd look at stuff by audio technica; sennheiser; beyerdynamic; AKG..

Some 'phones will sound a lot better with a dedicated headphone amp. Mostly depends on their impedance and how much current your headphone output can supply, but unless you're after hifi sounds decent headphones will do the job regardless of what you plug them into.
