Budget 5.1 setup & speaker stands
Discussion
Got an older Sony amp, only one optical in, no HDMI.
I need x3 HDMI in and x2 optical in. One of the inputs is a media pc, so I don't need a network enabled amp with spotify/last fm/dlna etc.
Looking at an Onkyo TX-SR309 for £150 and either Canton Movie 125s or Tannoy SFX5.1 speakers, both are £200.
Any suggestions for alternatives amps/speakers to consider ?
The speakers will need to go on small, lightweight stands, tannoy ones are £50 a pair and the canton ones £100 a pair which is frankly barmy pricing. In both cases I think the securing screw goes in to the bottom, rather than the back of the speaker casing. Anyone know of any ?
Thanks!

Good amp, would consider a full onkyo package, the speakers will be setup by Onkyo to compliment the amp's particular sound...
Onkyo package for £399
Onkyo package for £229
As always ask in the shop for a demo, only your ears can decide!

Apologies chaps, I missed your replies..
I got the Onkyo in the end. For speakers I read some reviews of this and that and decided on Canton MX 125s.
Problem was these are now discontinued (replaced by the MX 130s), I found a set at a Richer Sounds branch 30 miles away. Original RRP £400, now £200.
When I got there they pretty much pushed me in to buying the Tannoy SFX5.1, which I've heard before - I'm sure they are good but didn't really live up to the recommendations/hype.
By the time I got home I decided I didn't want them, for one thing they look utterly horrendous due to black cases with a silver front and grey cloth. Not sure why I relented really!
Didn't bother opening them, went to the local branch, who basically said they were the best speakers for the money blah blah blah... When I pushed a bit further for opinions on the cantons and harmon kardons it changed to "They aren't any better than the Tannoys" but refused to say they were any worse.. He also said that RS had done a deal and bought "all remaining stock" of the Tannoys which makes me suspicious of their recommendation.

In the end I paid another £100 and came home with Cambridge Audio Lusso 20s with the larger S90 sub. I could of had the smaller S80 sub, but it was only £20 difference..
Big step up from my 10+ year old Sony system and much better for music in particular. Definitely worth a look if you are thinking of a new setup
