Sky F1 HD sound

Part of the pre-season blurb about Sky F1 HD is that it is the first time you get 5.1 sound.

For some reason, for the Australian GP I only seemed to be getting stereo - nothing was coming through the rear speakers at all. It was fine on other channels.

Is this a quirk of my setup, or did anyone else get the same?

I'm guessing you didn't have the sky box connected to your amp with an optical cable, just HDMI?

^^ what he said, sky boxes don't output surround sound over HDMI, so you need a toslink cable.

Does anyone know if a PS3 can carry it over HDMI?

No, it's over optical. As said, it sounds fine on other channels, just not the F1 channel.

The only time i had something come through the back speakers was with an onboard.
The rest of the time it was normal stereo.

It may just be that they haven't fallen into the trap of putting way too much level on the rear channels.

Learn from my fail and make sure you're tuned to the HD feed. The SD channel claims to output 5.1 but that's not the case.

Mine is giving Dolby. Testing it with Qualifying.
