Hi, I have a blu ray computer and although I can link this to my tele via the hdmi cable to play movies is it possible to link it to my denon amp so I can get the sound quality. Many Thanks Gordon

Depends.. what outputs does the PC have and what inputs does the amp have ?

I'm assuming the amp doesn't have HDMI input ?

What motherboard is in the PC ? most at least have a SPDIF header, for which you can buy a plate like this:

That will let you feed the amp either by optical (toslink) or co-ax, they only cost a few quid - look for SPDIF backplate.

What you're looking for is a DAC. Basically a little unit that converts the digital audio file into an analogue signal which feeds the Denon amp. From PC to DAC using a USB cable, and then from the DAC to your amp using a pair of phono cables.

Price ranges from £100 all the way to a couple grand, depending on the quality of your system. What setup are you running, and are you looking to get the best SQ possible or just get audio to the amp as cheap as possible?

Eh?

You're assuming he's using a 2 channel amp, in which case he can just use the aux out / headphone socket and a 3.5mm/RCA cable, why spend hundreds of quid on a DAC when you can spend a fiver on a cable? Alternatively if it's a 5 channel amp, most modern computers have some kind of digital sound output.

I was thinking of this actually: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HiFi-24bit-USB-DAC-digit... Simply using a 3.5mm/RCA cable is a waste of the entire system whether a two or five channel amp; with all the noise and poor circuitry the SQ is horrific. Might as well be using the computer speakers...

And unless he has an inbuilt soundcard a digital output is unlikely, which is, I assume, why he's asking the question in the first place.

Now I'm even more confused - the DAC in your link would mean the PC would need a digital output??

I'd imagine that most PC's made in the last 10 years will have a TOS-LINK socket.

What DENON amp are you using?

My apologies, wrong link - was meant to have the USB version.
