Advice regarding Sonos and home cinema
Discussion
Hi,
I am undertaking a renovation of an old property and could do with some advice regarding my sound options.
I have decided to install Sonos ZP amplifiers in the Kitchen, Dining room, bathroom and bedroom. Looking at the units these amplifiers will power two speakers? I am looking at putting ceiling speakers into these four rooms. I know the sound isn't going to be as good as conventional speakers but I can live with this if it means no speakers on show. What ceiling speakers can you recommend?
The only room this leaves is my Lounge, I would like a decent home cinema setup in this room. Can this be connected through the Sonos network, if so how does this link up? Also any pointers for which surround sound I should go for in this room would be appreciated. I take it ceiling speakers wouldn't be the best way to go in this room or are there options for ceiling speakers that I should consider?
Cheers,
Ed

Speak to Vex. He usually knocks around the forum.
He will probably recommend Monitor Audio ceiling speakers
Regarding the sonos you could get the version without the amp and link it straight into your receiver/amp in the living room and let that take care of sending it to the 5.1 system if that is what you are installing.
I have got Triad ceiling speakers which sit flush in the ceiling but point 45 degrees down towards your listening position. It feels more like the sound is coming from the tv and not the ceiling. Not perfect but better than ceiling speakers pointing straight down.

Cheers for the replies. If four speakers per amp is possible I will be wanting four in the bedroom, four in the dining room area, two in the kitchen and two in the bathroom.
It will be a tv based system in the lounge. Regarding budget I am unsure exactly but a suppose I had around £1000 in mind for the lounge excluding tv. With possibly £50 - £100 per speaker in other rooms excluding sonos devices.
Cheers

Thanks for that, all very helpful. The problem I face at the moment is the job is so far from complete that my budget at the end could a fair bit depending on what is left in the pot at the end.I suppose a more immediate job I need to sort is the running of the correct speaker wire to the best location. What speaker wire should I get, and will it be the same for the rooms with Sonos as the surround sound system in the lounge?
With regards to speaker location, if I was to post up room sizes, shape etc could you guide me on the best spot to position them?
Cheers,
Ed.
For speaker wire use some 2.5mm2 wire that can be bought in a 300m roll. I'm sure some one off here can sort you one out at a decent price.
As for speaker position, as long as the room is a reasonable size so you have some separation then positioning is not critical. If the room is small eg. Bathroom then a single speaker that puts out stereo sound could be a good solution.
