Woohoo,my LG plasma lasted 2 years, what next then?
Discussion
Ok,don't know whether it's put me off LG or plasmas?:-)My 42 inch Lg pq6000 plasma broke down after 13 months, fixed under sale of goods act,9 months later screen itself has packed in!!!!Too expensive to repair!.
So i've been offered 255 quid towards new tv,plus i'll be getting my 95 deposit back for repair as it was a manufacturers fault.Whats the best full hd tv for under £500 nowadays then? All i want is for it to last longer than 2 years,is that too much to ask??

I'd suggest it is too much to ask at the bottom of the market, which is where LG live.
Ought not to be,but there you go.
Might be worth looking at the last generation of decent tellies, from companies with a good reputation. Recently had a Panasonic as an insurance replacement for a Pioneer, and, while not as solid as the Pioneer, seems well screwed together.

I was so close to getting a Viera at the time, but was in market for other car at the same time and better car won.I just find this so bloody annoying. This was my first plasma/lcd tv and i gave up (very reluctantly)my 29 inch Sony trinitron which had been faultless for 13 years from new.
I've instantly lost faith in newer tv,s,3d??Couldn't be arsed with that,to probably go through the double humiliation of one of those breaking down 'and' they've got you sitting there like a fud with glasses on,no thanks!(why did i feel so old typing this? lol)

I'd have a look at something like this......... I've got the previous model the G20, and more then happy with it.

Sitting watching my Viera plasma and I still don't thnk I have seen a better tv picture.
Can't remember the model but it's a 720p one with a 37 inch screen and about 3 years old now.
I was talking to a colleague a few weeks ago about how people buy things that give a moments pleasure that then fades and cited this tv as the one piece of tech that still gives me pleasure when I use it.

I'd be asking the company you purchased it off about the sales of goods act. Doesn't matter about warranty offered.
Is it reasonable to expect a brand new television to pack up completely after the period you have had it?
I would say it isn't.
I've been thinking about that.First time tv broke down it was just out of manufacturers warranty.A company called 'KNOWHOW' who work on behalf of Dixons took it away the first time,i paid £65 deposit,if it was a manufacturers fault i would get the £65 back,it was a manufacturers fault and it was fixed and returned.About a year later(last week)tv packs in again,i was perfectly aware of the sale of goods act so knew it would be fixed, but this time the options given to me were £95 deposit,tv taken away, and if it's a manufacturers fault again £95 would be returned, again it was a manufaturers fault but this time it was beyond viable repair costs. Is it reasonable to expect a brand new television to pack up completely after the period you have had it?
I would say it isn't.
This time my options were 'repair' or i would be given current value of my knackered tv towards a newer one.I do still wonder though if i can hold out and insist on a tv replacement, which is in the original copy of the sale of goods act i was given.
Buy anything Panasonic and you'll be OK, IMO. Good quality to boot.
My Panasonic plasma is still going strong 4.5y later and still has better video quality (subjective of course) than 95% of the LCD/LED and 70% of the plasma TVs out there now.
If I was in the market for another plasma, it would be a Panasonic.

My Panny 42PX60 (circa 5 years old now) is just about to die. The screen occasionally flickers dark/very very burned/negative type images but then pops back to normal again. Not long for this world I don't think! I know Panny's are very good and 5 years is.... ok I suppose... but I wish it would have lasted longer. My Panasonic plasma is still going strong 4.5y later and still has better video quality (subjective of course) than 95% of the LCD/LED and 70% of the plasma TVs out there now.
