I suspect I know the answer to this already but this morning our 32" LCD TV failed to fire up from the red standby light with the remote even with a change of batteries. Turning it off at the wall and turning it back on again was only a success in that we lost the standby light as well.
These modern TVs don't last and it's only a Tesco Orion brand between 3 and 5 years old I'd guess. I'm going to hazard a guess it's not worth repairing and just as cheap to buy a new one?

Our no-name TV blew up last year. Took it to a local guy who said it needed a mainboard. IF he could get the board, it'd be £200, but he couldn't get one anyway as Japan had just washed away, and the TV had mostly Japanese parts in it.

Thankfully we later discovered it was still under warranty, so got it fixed. It's making a nasty buzzy noise from the back now, and sometimes forgets to turn on the backlight, so next time it dies, it's going.

Wonder if it has done the classic capacitor dried out fault.

We have a nice 40" Samsung that was heading for the tip. Cost to repair £1.99

Might be worth attempting a repair if it was a premium make but it's not. Mind you, it was expensive in its day so the upside is I can now get a bigger Toshiba for far less.
