So I moved into my new house. Fantastic. Owner have moved to India!!
Booked up Sky install. Thought I'd go for the basic first to see how much I use it. Get in the house and sitting on the floor is a sky HD box. with a card in it.

Plugged it in and it works. I have sky coming this week now but I'm not sure what to do

Put off my sky install until this one stops?
How would I get my new sky card to be paired with the HD box as I can't have it impaired as the original owners have left the country!

Thanks
Nick

This.

A friend of mine (cough) used to install for sky and would come across some cards now and again, maybe from a de-installation. Most cards would be cancelled right away but one or two stayed active. One in particular offered the full package for 2 years right up until Sky replaced all cards a while back.

If the card stops working then you can call up Sky and have just a card sent out as you are supplying your own equipment, but your just as well getting a free box and putting the other one in a spare room.

Not a problem, any new pairing will overwrite the old. No need to "impair" as you put it.

Just use until it stops working, then call Sky for a new subscription, when the new card arrives you'll need to phone Sky to activate it. This happens regularly.

Plus you can keep the old box for another room and/or flog it.
