I've seen some Roth Oli 30 floor speakers for £190 from the local Costco, which I can get for 150 from fleabay. Could these (or something of similar size for less) be recommended?

Cheers

Probably not the reply you were looking for...but I only know Roth for their iPod and surround sound solutions. However, these speakers do admittedly look good value, but I would urge you to have a listen before buying. Good luck! smile

Try Superfi as they're slightly cheaper than ebay.

I've not listened to them but for the money I'd also visit Richer Sounds as they often have floorstanders in that range. They'll also be able to do a demo so you can do side by side comparisons.

If going on ebay though, why not look for a good condition pair of second hand speakers?

I was thinking of selling my ProAc Studios on ebay but then found they don't fetch a lot 2nd hand. They were £1000 new but only seem to be getting £250 nowadays frown

I also have a pair of Ruark Templars so don't hold out much hope of getting much more than £150, despite them costing over £500 new. There's bound to be a load of decent 2nd hand gear available if you're prepared to dig around.

Cheers for the replies beer

Toffer - is this due to variable quality or just seeing how they sound? I'm no audiophile so I would probably struggle to tell a good set from a low quality set paperbag

Fatman2 - problem being up in Aberdeenshire is the nearest Richersounds store is in Edinburgh which is a tad far, and most second hand Ebay stuff is down south. Not much on Gumtree either ATM. The only interesting thing locally is this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte... but the damage is somewhat off putting...

I'd be getting in touch with Fatman and seeing about his Ruark speakers, they'll wipe the floor with anything you can buy new for £150. Assuming they look alright then there's nothing wrong with second hand

LOL thanks.

I wasn't trying to punt some speakers to you but will get back to you this evening (can't access personal email at work).

They are the Mk 1's finished in rosewood btw. I'm also based in Buckinghamshire so a fair way from Aberdeenshire but we can discuss later.

Thanks smile
