Sometimes miss stuff on the Beeb, the iplayer is meant to be the saver for this, but for people with low bandwidth connections it's useless, even if you select the low bandwidth button.
Most of the time the stuff I want are films, and they tend not to be available for download.
The BBC doesn't buffer so as to deter pirates, which is annoying. If I miss something on the Beeb (and it's not repeated) then it's done.
Anyone else have the same issues?
Any useful/constructive advice on offer?

The BBC can't do anything about the rights for the stuff they buy in unfortunately. Also, due to the way the BBC have stopped people from downloading the streams from the internet the online iPlayer doesn't buffer while paused. The only thing I can suggest, and this is probably not that helpful, is to try a 3G dongle and see whether you get faster internet that way.
IPlayer is great for when you've got the bandwidth, otherwise the best option really is to use a DVR box, they aren't usually that expensive and you do have to remember to set stuff up to record but you get the functionality then for all shows on all the channels you have not just what they can get the rights for on their various catchup services.

Install iPlayer Desktop. Download program at whatever speed your internet does. Watch program.

I take a pretty black and white approach to this kinda stuff. If I've missed something on the Beeb and am unable for whatever reason to access it through their services, the usual places will have it

Well your licence fee pays for you to watch everything the BBC outputs on all it's channels, 24/7, 365days. So providing that the BBC show it during your licence period, you've already paid for it. (some or all of this maybe legally incorrect)

That's my take. I don't see obtaining it from wherever and storing it locally as any different to keeping it on my Sky+ box, whatever anyone else's opinion is.Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
