Bought the above mentioned speaker package yesterday from Bose. I got back home this evening and set it all up, however I think i've made the wrong choice for my TV.

I have a Sony Bravia KDL W2000. It's a 1080p 40" TV which I bought back in 2008. Upon setting it up correctly I played the set-up CD and it just isn't a good enough sound IMO for the ~£550 spent.

The main issue I think is that I don't have an optical "out" on the tv, this coupled with the Bose system not using HDMI means that all the HDMI devices (Sky+, PS3) connect to the TV by HDMI but then the audio to the Bose system is connected by the red/white analogue cable which pretty much defeats the object.

The man at Bose assured me that I have 30 days to return which I will be doing in the next few days.

I am now looking for another surround sound system, preferably 5.1. My main priority is to have the HDMI connection throughout in order to remain totally digital throughout.

There are a few from Pioneer that have caught my eye.

Any other suggestions welcome. My budget is up to around £600.

I would recommend buying a separate AV receiver and speaker package.

Something like:

With:

I know the speakers are white but they are brilliant value!

I have just gone into this and have done a lot of research. I bought a Marantz 5006 receiver and lucked out with a second hand set of Mordaunt-Short Alumni speakers but still need to get a sub. I got my current set-up for under £600. It sounds brilliant!

The Bose stuff is really poor these days.

Optical wont even cut it nowadays. DTS Master audio etc (if you dont know what it is, think of it as a new version of dolby) will not pass through optical cable. You need to get the audio through HDMI. For £600 as Rosscow mentioned, buy a decent amp & some speakers, that way all your bits will plug into your AV Amp with HDMI and there will be one HDMI output to your TV.

BOSE look great, but thats mainly what you pay them money for.

Agreed with all above. Money back and get a Denon/Onkyo/Yamaha receiver and a nice speaker set up. One of the main manufacturers Kef/ Monitor Audio/Jamo etc will blow the Bose into next week/year/decade/millennium ...
