tv ariel sensitivity?

hey guys, i took my tv back and then bought a new ariel to wall socket lead (i have a ariel on the roof), i get most channels, all with perfect signal, there are one or two channels that i only get when the wire is positioned in a certain way, why is this? i.e. i swivel it round a bit in the socket and suddenly i get full signal
