Budget at around 1-2k GBP, what is the best 3D LED TV on the market?

Looking to upgrade an old (2005) 42" plasma to something much better for my birthday smile

Preliminary investigations at the moment, figured the best place to get a baseline would be PH.

So, with the above budget, what would be on the list?

Thanks.

I can't see 3D due to an eye condition but I've just tried an LG 55LM670t in Curry's and blow me, full 3D. Standing there grinning like an idiot, I saw what everyones been going on about all these years. Cheapo glasses, not active, like in the cinema (where I can't see any effect). Nice telly, good reviews, I'm having one of these....

I normally always recommend Panasonic, but as I haven't bought a new one for a few years I don't have any recent experience to back me up.

My 5 year old Panasonic 32" LCD still gives a beautiful picture though, and I've not had any issues/faults with it.

No, you can't.

All the 3D TVs for sale here seem to be LED...

Thanks. I have a Plasma now, but from 2005 so not even full HD.

I'll see if they are available here...

GT50 & VT50 all day long, if you must have a LED try the Sony 55HX853.

Now, I don't have much in the way of 3D content - there is not much on the cable, don't have much in the way of blueray so most comes as .avi files played on a media drive. If you know what I mean smile

Is active 3D really best for me, or am I better off with the 'cinema 3D' without batteries in the glasses?

I have no idea about the ‘best’, but I do reckon that once you get past around £700 you are entering the realm of diminishing returns and paying for the design/build quality of the casing.

The Samsung range of consumer level 3D LEDs are pretty amazing for picture quality, input range, and extra functions … and for a 42" you wouldn’t need to pay anywhere near a grand.

I have just bought the 860V.

http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-55LM860V-3d-tv

There was a free offer in the shop, which was NOT advertised, 3D home Cinema system (This was on display at £300) Also an offer by redemption of free 3D Video Camera.

Cannot fault it so far, but I am by no means an expert.

£1699 in Currys.

I’ve always found LGs to be miles ahead of most brands when it comes to displaying standard definition pictures. That’s actually a pretty big consideration, when you remember that you’ll most likely end up watching a lot of SD programming if you watch any broadcast TV at all.

I would second Samsung as being the current cream of the crop. They have great designs and a good picture too. Job done.

Just found that the 55LM8600 is $500 more expensive in Dubai than in the USA (including shipping to the UAE).

Even higher res. Not 3D. It will die like mini disk players did.
