....I am planning to upgrade to a 55" HD TV 1 - I have had this combo for about 8 years and the panel display is perfect (not HD , of course).... trouble is, the plasma panel works in conjunction with a "media box", which for the last couple of months occasionally switches itself off and won't work again until it has cooled down a bit.

This is a well-known issue with this media box due to some dry solder joints (according to my internet searches) and it can apparently be repaired for £60-70....

Thanks !

I thought they could do HD via the VGA connector?

Maybe it can - but the main issue for me is the unreliability of the media box, which I can't be bothered with - so I want to start again...

It is a Pioneer PDP-503HDE plasma panel with a PDP-R03E media box

OK - my new Panasonic 55" LED arrives a week on Thursday, and my media box and Pioneer plasma panel will be going to the tip.

Eh? Occasional fault that might be repairable for £60-£70 and you're going to dump it? Why not stick it on Ebay or Gumtree?

I'd have had it from you, but Bucks is a little far from me in south Hants.

I have this screen and it's still fine.
720P and 1080i - i would say sell it or give it to a friend. Well worth spending the £70-£80 to repair it, don't tip it.
