home cinema systems...
Discussion
Right. Basically, we are buying a new tv. That is sorted, so no need for recommendations on that front. The problem is getting a good home cinema/surround sound. Trips to Comet and Currys seem to confuse me, as often the 'experts' recommend completely different things. There is two common problems.
1. because of the shape of the living room, the problem with surround sound speakers is that in most seating positions you will have a speaker blasting straight into your ears, thus not being able to hear the others properly.
2. sound bars are a recommended alternative, but is there any good enough that will throw sound out creating a surround sound feel?

i am no expert on this at all
but wanted something for at home, that didn't involve speakers and cable all over the front room.
stumbled on the "bose cinemate" system in currys, and was really impressed. its basically a sub woofer, and 2 smallish speakers that sit by my telly, and somehow???? seem to projct the sound around the room.
had it 2 or 3 years now, and for an entry level system it never fails to impress me
i guess it has a different name now, but could be worth a nose around the bose website.
currys and bose wanted £350 for it i think when i got it, but by some fluke, an independant specialist in brentwood had it on special, last one left, blah, blah, blah so i shot over and got it fo £250
the base and clarity of sound at any level, to my untrainedears is spot on!

comet had a very similar thing, Bose, two small speakers and a sub woofer. it really was great, but they can be used for pc's aswell, so they plug into the headphone socket. so when you want to use them, it mutes the tv, so you only get the sound from the speakers. as good as it was, it seemed a little weird
Don't go to comet or similar. Try these guys or other specialists.
