All the other channels work but the BBC ones (1,2 news etc) don't.

I've tried retuning but still the same.

Any ideas?

BBC multiplex may be broken.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/transmitters/tv/

Click on your transmitter area and see if anything pops up.

Thanks but it's been like that for about a month. It's the TV in the bedroom, the sky is fine hence the lack of urgency in looking for a solution.

Depending where you live the mulitplex (MUX) that BBC channels are broadcast could be at the high (or low) end of the transmission frequency. This could mean that either your aerial or perhaps in the cables and aerial splitters (if you have them) is attenuating those frequencies. Have a look at your aerial to see if it looks like any of the elements are missing for example. It could even be that the aerial has moved round slightly, just enough to 'knock out' the BBC frequency. It happened to me a few years back as I fitted my own aerial but it wasn't quite tight enough and would move round a little in high winds. Sometimes I'd lose certain channel groups for a few days until the wind blew it back the other way again. frown

I have the exact same problem with my bedroom television. All other MUXs are fine - the BBC one is dead. Really not sure why it is happening

Any of the reasons I put in my above post, or perhaps you just need a wideband aerial (or one specific for your area depending what channel groups the muxes are on). Many areas have had channels reshuffled this year (you did retuned didn't you?) so may have moved a mux to a group your aerial is too weak at receiving properly.

Your Sky isn't being sent around the house is it? A fairly common problem I find is with retunes going on this year the BBC mux has been reallocated to the same as the Sky box RF out channel. Try the aerial going to Sky box direct into the main set and if BBC works then you need to look up your channel groups list and what your Sky rf out is to see they don't clash.
Let us know what happens with that test.

It could also be to much signal with the BBQ mux.

I have had it where it has worked up to the resent retune and then because they turned the power up after the analogue channels were turned off the signal is actually to powerful and confuses the tv tuner.

Thanks for everyone's help.

No, the Sky just goes straight to the box in the living room.

The TV says signal strength of 5% for BBC channels whereas the other channels show 80%+.

The aerial is in the roof space, goes to a signal booster/splitter (the previous owner of the house had a TV in every room) and then on to our TV. I've tried all the connections, with and without the splitter and the results are all the same. I'll try wiggling the aerial around.

Ok, the aerial can bypass sky box as you have no sky distribution system in place so it doesn't need to go through the box. Try it direct to tv or recorder and retune. Thats a big drop if its aerial alignment, those figures don't suggest to me alignment but without a meter can't confirm that for you. You can also try bypassing booster in loft and connect direct to lounge downlead. Might be a fault on booster. Lastly check all connection on aerial system. One strand of shield wire touching centre core will cause a short.
