Its time to replace my comfy old Denon udm31 CD receiver with something more modem.
I’ve been considering another Denon D-M38DAB or 39DAB depending on price.
However a Sony CMTMX750NI caught my eye and it also falls within my budget. So I’m just wondering if I will ne sacrificing quality for functionality by going for the all signing all dancing Sony.

What's wrong with the old one?

Are you going to run them with stock speakers?

ANothing apart from the common volume control problem (which I’m hoping to fix) I really want it for my PC & Xbox in another room.

I believe the original sparkers were made by Mision but badged Denon. I’m tempted to keep them in place as they look good and have a pleasant sound, although I’m not sure if they would be ok with the Sony.

General with those all-in-one systems, the speakers are the weak link. If you are going to use your own, then that is less of an issue. However, it means that you can't really demo the new units, unless you take your speakers with you.

I'm afraid that I can't really offer much insight into the different models, only that I've had Denon seperates and AV equipment for years. If you were happy with your current Denon, may as well go for one again.

The little Missions that came with the Denon systems are surprisingly good speakers, I have a pair for my bedroom separates system and I've seen them in radio studios I've worked in used for monitoring. They're 6 ohm if I remember rightly- any new system you get should be fine driving them at normal levels, you're not going to get much better sound quality 'till you start spending quite a lot more than they were originally. Usually micro/mini system supplied speakers are pretty poor, but Denon were good and went with a British manufacturer to make theirs.

My personal sound preferences, but I've never rated any Sony HiFi components, stick with a Denon, or even a Marantz.

I have a Denon in the bedroom
I'd be inclined to stick with them rather than jumping to Sony
just a thought with the new model coming into place now it should be possible to pick up the older one discounted ?

Finally settled on a Denon RCD-N7 Ceol network CD Receiver. With the original Denon speakers.

It ticked almost all the boxes, except DAB but Internet radio more than makes up for that.
