Morning all,

I have a 2011 Panasonic TX-P42G30B plasma, which has been fine until the last week or so. When viewing a broadcast with a predominantly white background it is showing 'clouds' of light green or red/pink. It is more accurate on the better freeview HD channels but almost unwatchable on the more basic channels.
The screen was purchased from Richers with a 5 yr warranty, so I can call them but lose the screen for a while. I have read about firmware upgrades, would these be applicable to this set or are would they kelp?

Any suggestions as to what may be going wrong or anything I can do to remedy this?

Thanks

Dom H

Hi Dom

If it’s doing it on all sources, I would use the warranty, it’s really not worth buggering about with, maybe they will exchange it.

Just a thought I have a TXP 60 it once started doing odd things, factory reset sorted it out, its in one of the menu's, however if it's been callabrated you will loose all the settings.

Last week or so. A quick comparison between the England game now on ITV1 HD and Holby City on BBC1 HD.

Football on ITV1 HD- Very clear with strong contrast between the blue/white kits on a vibrant green background, with clearly defined colours to the pitch side advertising.

Holby on BBC HD- Close ups of people show clouding/flickering patches, dimly lit rooms show undefined patches on walls.

Anything with a low contrast such as clouds on a blue sky background show pinks and greens on th ecloud, like mother of pearl.

I've tried the various schemes such as THX/Normal/Cinema/Dynamic with no solution. Also tried a reset to factory setting, which was no improvement. It's the same whether its SKY or the ariel feed...

Looks like it's Borked... irked

I take it the feeds are direct to the tv, ie aerial input on tv and either hdmi or scart from the Sky box?

Ariel is a normal lead, the SKY box is an HDMI lead.

Thanks for input chaps...

Does sound borked. Personally I would post up on AVF. Couldnt see the G30 thread but I am sure there will be one there somewhere.

Still a recent model so well worth salvaging as long as you were happy with it.

Think I've sussed it. Called out an engineer under warranty, neither of us could find a poor picture. I watched a few shows over the weekend and none were too bad. I 'Sky+' the MotoGP on Sunday and watched it yesterday evening, the picture was perfect with rich colours, superb crisp definition, just as it should be. I then watched Downton Abbey last night, which is largely shot indoors, this was an absolute mess almost un-watchable. A quick look at the telly this afternoon, and it was as bad as last night with picture flicker and the green and pink shadowing. I 'Sky+' it so that I could show the engineer when I called him back.

It dawned on me that the problem was intermittent and could be a poor broadcast (unlikely, given that Downton is ITV's big Autumn show) so googled a bit. Among the MUX1 and MUX2 info, someone had suggested checking the signal/power routing. This was something I was aware of when I used to enjoy Hi-fi (before kids irked). A quick fiddle with cabling and the picture instantly improved. I replayed the show I'd just 'Sky+' and it was crystal clear (indicating that the recorded/recieved signal was fine).

Watching the screen now, the picture is much improved. I'm watching using the supplied $2 HDMI that came with the SKY HD box, and am now wondering how much better the picture could be with a replacement cable.

Is there an ideal routing of cabling? Ie, what should not be near each other?

Ta,

Dom H

The PH default screen about a year back, the Panasonic TX-P42G30B. Think I need to have a good clear up on the cables....
