One of my flatmates recently got a new IplayXstationbox thig of some sort. dont ask me what!)

Since he has had that, whenever they use it, the tv signal on my tv goes from 100% strength to anything as low as 0% normally hovering around 2-10%.

different rooms, different ends of the house, not even connected to the same aerial.

Are they Tv signal black holes or something?

Sure they're not on the same aerial system? Sounds strange indeed, suggests to me the equipment is linked somehow through the aerials and what they're using is outputting a signal on the same frequency as the one your're using or they're unplugging your aerial feed to use another one in its place. Can you make a note of equipment and aerial connections they're using and how the aerial is distributed in house? If they're separate aerials altogether then their equipment is totally separated from yours and I can't see how they, can affect, you.

Doon't suppose you're using any kind of tv sender? These operate in the 2.4 Ghz band and can be impacted by anything that uses wifi.

Unlikely as it is I had a similar issue back when I was a student in a shared house

My mate had a PS1 (before it was called a "1" that's how long ago it was)

Turned out my mates room was the old lounge of the property, because he didn't have enough plugs and was too tight to but an extension cable everytime he used the PS he'd unplug the aerial amplifier in the built in cupboard in the alcove next to the chimney breast to plug in the playstation. Took me chuffing ages to work out what was causing my 4 channels to keep disappearing
