Hi all,

I have a set of Sennheiser PXC 250-II noise cancelling headphones and although they produce a nice sound etc they have developed a slight fault with the wiring into the mid cable NR box. I think it has occured while I have had them in the carry pouch and I think the cables got folded and have become loose or frayed in the rubber, if I move it around then the NR crackles and becomes less effective, its not ON then move it and it goes off, it seems to be crackling with any movement.

I am looking to contact Sennheiser to see about sending them back for repair but I am also looking to replace them, as if its something thats happened once it will happen again. I am looking at a budget of around £150 max and so looking for recommendations as to what other people have or would suggest I have a look at.

Many thanks for any help anyone can give.

I know that some audiophiles out there sneer at Bose, but I find they give a nicely rounded sound. For £107, how about these:

Tried a few of the ANR headphones and none even get close to the Bose ANR. Sound quality is another matter but I wouldn't have a clue about that.

Funny enough I have the Sennheiser PXC 250-II that has developed exactly the same fault!

Mine are 'well travelled' to the point that the coveringto the head guard and the ear pads has disintegrated. Whilst I would think of getting them reconditioned I think they are destined for the bin.

I know Sennheiser are very good on faults etc as the clip to the battery compartment broke a few years back after I contacted them they sent me a new battery cover free of charge!

What to buy? If you want noise cancelling then these cannot be beat for the price. I'd certainly buy another set.

I have a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 2s, had them for the last 6-7 years. They are superb and gave the best sound after testing a avriety of other makes. The build quality is also great and shown in the fact that they are still almost as good as new after this time. This model is outside of your budget but you should definitely consider Bose.

I've just upgraded my PX250's (in a rash budget blowing airport moment just prior to a 10 hour flight...) to Bose Quiet comfort 15s. Wow. They really are something (as you would hope for the price).

Worth every penny for that long sleep on the plane and dealing with the deafening hotel aircon that slammed itself on and off every hour.

I know it wrecks the budget, but hey this is PH and it's traditional. smile
