I know everyone on here is into their proper kit rather than the cheap stuff, and I am too, but I am going out on saturday to buy a big-ass telly for as little as possible for a gift. Quality is not an issue, nor is features (the less the better other than freeview built in). size is more important.

Best Ive found is tescos doing a 40inch technica for £249.

Can anyone beat this?

Does the recipient of this gift know you are a cheapskatejester

40" isn't big ass either.

Likewise. I don't understand. What is the point of the gift?

A poor image on a 40" or bigger is unwatchable. Granted, the bottom end has got better with each generation, but the price/performance sweet spot is not there.

I know it's cheap, but spending 100s extra on a quality bit of kit would be totally lost on the recipient. A value pasty is the same size as a ginsters but the value is cheaper so it's a better deal despite quality kind of thing.

40 isnt massive, but 40 for £249 isnt bad...

The question more accurately I suppose would be...

does anyone know where you could get more inches for similar money, or the same inches for less?

Not my cup of tea, but can't really grumble for the price:

£279.95 for 40" full HD:

Or this HD ready 43" plasma for £319.95:

Saw this ad on the TV today and thought of this thread.

Can anyone beat £5.90/inch for 1080p?

Tesco were doing a 50" LG for £428. I got one for £410 after using some vouchers we had. Now installed in Upstairs lounge and working really well. Not 1080p but pretty good none the less.

eBuyer just listed this one:

42" LG £289.99 Free delivery

Think it's the same one as someone posted above just £10 cheaper and free delivery smile

1080p is the least useful feature as only BR will display it and on a 40, that's only going to add detail at quite close range compared to 720p.
