The last time I had sky was in the 90s so today I decided to man up and order HD with the 2TB box. Best of all the installation date is on Thursday which is nice and fast and also gives me an evening to faff about recording stuff before I get back from a trip to Cornwall.

I've only gone for the standard entertainment pack but I may add the sports channels later on. I wouldn't have saved any money getting it all in one go so I'll see how it goes.

Sky Go seems like a good service on the face of it too but what's the general opinion from current subscribers?

As much as I dislike Mr Murdoch Sky + HD is an excellent package although I do think it is a bit cheeky to be still charging extra for the HD channels. It is definitely better than the Virgin equivalent in my opinion.
Just make sure you go through the installation with the engineer before he starts to make sure that you are happy with the dish location and cable routes etc.
When four million people are paying £10 a month it's going to be a really big decision to suddenly turn down £40 million in cash a month. What they may do is waive it for Sky World or top package subscribers making it tempting for those with only one 'premium' pack like Sports or Movies to take the top package for an extra £8 a month or so.

Good advice about the cables. It's two through the wall, yes? I've marked off where to drill and it should be a straight line down from the dish location. How flexible are the cables as they will come out of the wall about 8" from the floor but I'd like to route them through some cable management and around the skirting board.

For the phone and activation I'm just going to run a cable from the hallway. The main socket is a long way away and we don't have an extension near the tv. I'll ask the engineer to set it up from the extension cable and unplug it. It only needs a callback fir multi room or for pay per view ordering so ill just take it out. If sky moan ill just pay the £25 and go socketless.

I don't know if it's different for HD but we've just had Sky+ installed and we didn't need a phone socket connection, the engineer didn't even mention it which was good because Sky are taking as long as humanly possible to get a new phone line installed so we can finally get broadband.

I'm in exactly the same boat, we had Sky as a kid and now i'm getting it in my house after struggling with BT Vision for years, the service is so inconsistant! Hoping Sky will be much better and they won't slow our internet down!
Ours is coming on Thursday too!

We only moved in just before Christmas and had the whole place rewired so asked for it to be prepped ready for Sky so hopefully they can just connect it to the junction box type thingy (technical i know) in the loft which feeds the sockets in the rest of the house.

I've ordered entertainment, movies and hd+ and the entertainment extra because all in for TV, Phone and Broadband (can't get Optical stuff here) its £69 but if i get entertainment extra for £5 to start with it knocks off £15 or something for 6 months, then i can cancel it.
Now we won't be buying DVDs due to the movies pack, we should save money seeing as BT Vision bills were between £55-65 plus however much we spent on DVDs a month.
The biggest pull was the F1 Channel though, free with HD so don't have to get S-Sports subscription that i wouldn't use!
Only got the standard box though, thought if i had filled up 80 hours of HD i would never watch it anyway.

You'll soon be back to buying DVDs when you realise that Sky put about 10 films per month on a loop biggrin
