One of our remotes started playing up when pressing the select button, so i thought i would swap it for the slightly newer, less used one from the bedroom, managed to re-synch the remote ok, but when i tried to do the same with the slightly dodgy one it didn't work 100%.
I went through the sequence via the sky active section and entered the relevant code, but once I'd finished all I could adjust was the volume, I did try several times.
Have I missed something, or is it simply time for a new remote.

Depending on the age/generation of the remote, the code will either be 3 or 4 digits long.

The code is 4 digits, as above, i can go all through the set-up procedure, but at the end all i can adj is the volume.

Sony in the lounge, which is working as it should be, and LG in the bedroom, which is the one playing up.
What i can't work out is that both remotes were working perfectly before switching them around, apart from an annoying select button on the remote that was in the lounge, ( hence the reason for changing them round ).

Then the code is wrong.

I use this site for all my codes.

That site confirms the code is correct, 1293 for the LG. Will give it another try following the alternative method shown.

But there are 11 different 4 digit shown on that page for LG

OK, if the original one doesn't work I will try some of the others.

This is becoming a real pain now, remote will synch to the tv but won't operate the sky box.

You may be correct, the remote is a lot older than the one that was used for the LG, are these readily available from flea-bay.

It's NOT an issue with the code for the TV, that works fine, the remote doesn;t control the Sky box? What sort of box is it? Sky+?

Try this.

It's a sky+ box, the other one we have in the lounge is sky+HD.

You have been wasting your time, the two remotes are different.

Agreed, + remotes will control HD boxes but not the other way round.

Not all sky remotes are made equal!

Probably explains it then, how do I know I'm getting the correct one when buying a new one, is there an easy way of telling the 2 apart, ( I do hope that's not a silly question ).

Two ways of telling

1 the Sky HD remotes are a sort of polished silver and the Sky + remotes are a matt plastic silver/grey.

2 Read the label on the packet when you buy it. idea
Appreciate the rather tongue in cheek advice, but if I order one via the interweb then this might be a little difficult, but thanx anyway.

Only playing around, if you order a sky + or sky hd depending on the one you choose to replace you should be fine, the hd ones are a little more expensive.

Where are you Steve.

If local to me, I could drop one off to you.

But genuinely they are very difficult to mix up.
Sky = Blue,
Grey = +,
Silver = HD,
Black = 1&2Tb HD
